Beta Sign Up
In this post we'll give you general information about Betas and how to sign up if you decide to become one for Exo Mostly Human Round 2. If you're a writer please be patient ^^ / We'll give you all the information you need for beta claiming short after we gather enough Beta sign ups, this in order to our writers to not be left without help. Without further add, here we go!
🔮 What is a beta?
In short, a beta is someone who helps a writer, in this case our participant work through their writing either by working as a plot soundboard, grammar and spelling, or any feedback on the plot, characters, settings, tone, etc. Anything the writer would like help with.
🔮 Who can beta?
Quite literally, anyone. Different writers need different betas, so if you can offer your time and commit to helping a writer through their writing process you are welcomed to sign up!
🔮 How it Works
We will do a Beta Archive since we think this will be flexible for participants throughout the fest. Beta Sign Ups and Beta Claiming will run from now until September 20th. When we receive Beta applications we will update the spreadsheet. When we have a couple of Betas we will open and tweet out the spreadsheet. EMH participants can then drop by to read all Beta applicants' information. From there they can decide if they want to work with a beta and contact us where we will then e-mail the beta.
PARTICIPANTS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO HAVE A BETA.
🔮 Expectations for Beta
- You must be prepared to spend time working with a writer between now and September 20th. Please keep in mind this will require working out a schedule and what the writer needs between the both of you on your own time. Otherwise, you can contact us when questions or concerns arise.
- You must honor the anonymity code of fests and exchanges and not reveal who or what you’re specifically beta-ing for on social media during the duration of the fest.
- Have a valid e-mail so that we can contact you and so an interested participant can contact you.
- Once you've gotten your Beta information please e-mail us to let us know when your Beta agrees to work with you.
- Don't disappear on your Beta; if you need to withdraw contact you can contact them directly and/or e-mail us to let us contact them.
- If you think you'll need a beta last minute, please keep in mind that column of the spreadsheet.
- In case it's not clear, you can share everything with the beta as they are there to help you. Don't be afraid to ask them anything on your mind.
# of Prompts willing to Beta: (Please be realistic, it’s recommended to be 1 or 2, but if you can do more then please say so.)
Time Zone:
Experience in beta/editing: (Maybe you've edited friends’ stories, were a school tutor, edit for work, into blogging, self-editing, etc.; You can list anything that gives participants confidence. Do you prefer technical editing[grammar, spelling, format]? Do you prefer being a creative sound board [plot development, characterization, tone, etc]? Are you willing to do both? What form of contact will you prefer? Basically, sell your services here!)
Ratings: (Up to which rating are you willing to beta? G, PG, PG-13, NC-17, R)
OTPs:
NOTPs:
Strengths/Likes: (List as many genres, tropes, etc as you can. The more specific the more likely a strong match can be made)
Weaknesses/Dislikes: (Same as above)
Can you beta last minute?: (For emergency reasons this is a yes or no to being asked to beta between September 13 - 20)
Message to our participants: (Optional) The more you express yourself the better image your writer has of you to work with their story!
Below is what I would write; it might engage you or it might put you off, but it should help potential participants to narrow down their search. Yours may be completely different.
🔮 Example
# of Prompts willing to Beta: 2
Time Zone: EST/EDT
Experience in beta/editing: I'm not much of a writer myself, but I enjoy reading. I have a strength in technical editing of brochures, how-tos, cover letters, and resumes so I've got an eye and ear for tone, audience, spelling, and grammar.
My editing style is straightforward. I will correct spelling on my own, but will bring up sentences that sound unnatural or strange and offer other ways to express it rather than edit on my own. I like to explain what I’m editing and why I'm editing it. So your document may have more colorful notes than cross outs; I actually don't believe in cross outs. I can work with ESL/EFL writers. I'm TEFL certified if that helps. You can tell me how strict or easy going you want me to be, but by default I'm easygoing as I don't want to feel discouraged.
I'd also be willing to work as a soundboard for anyone who wants to throw around ideas and develop characters, settings, or needs help researching. Writing can be a stressful time so I'm willing to do a lot of handholding. If you ask for a list of all dog breeds, I'll do it. You want virtual hugs? I'll send them. I do a lot of soundboarding with my writer friends, and I think I’ve developed solid questions to help you find what you're looking for.
While I will handhold my goal is to make sure you're producing your own ideas and your story has a "You," the writer, element. We can keep bouncing off ideas until something seems to stick with you.
Also, I would prefer sharing files with you on google docs rather than .doc .docx files. I'm more free on the weekends than on weekdays but we can work the minor details out later if you want to work with me.
Ratings: Any
OTPs: All EXO pairings & ot3+
NOTPs: None.
Strengths/Likes: slice of life, crack/comedy, action, aromantic/ace spectrum and some lgbtqi themes, romance, angst, hurt/comfort; okay with everything not mentioned in dislikes.
Weaknesses/Dislikes: A/B/O, porn without plot, hardcore kinks like water sports, sci-fi & fantasy (I like reading it, but I'm weak in it)
Can you beta last minute?: Yes
Message to our participants: Whether we work together or not, I hope you can develop and find support in fic writing! I can't wait to read them all at the end!

How to Post Submissions on AO3
I hope this post finds you well. As the title suggests we recently had a week long poll about where EMH's postings ought to be. The final results were 81% for archiveofourown (AO3), 17% for both dreamwidth and ao3, and 2% for dreamwidth.
This means that we will be posting on ao3! However, this also means that how submissions are sent in will change, but if you don't have an ao3 don't fret! We will proceed with the traditional style of e-mail submission in that case, and I'll explain more about that when later in this post. Check-ins will still remain the same and we will e-mail everyone to remind them.
For now, I would like to break down final submissions on AO3 so there's time to digest and answer any and all questions you may have over the next couple of months.
In overview, AO3 Users will not submit final drafts to us via e-mail. Instead you will be in charge of posting your own piece onto our AO3 collection at http://archiveofourown.org/collections/emhroundtwo.
Everything will be Anonymous until reveals.
(In the interest of convenience you can bookmark the link for later. You can also access it by looking at EMH's profile under 'collections'.)
We will tweet submissions normally, one-by-one, starting on September 21st, but if readers come across your piece before your tweets that's even better! We only ask you do not reply to comments until reveals.
Final Submission
- On the Collection page click 'Post to Collection' at the top right corner.
- This will bring up the 'Post New Work' page that you use for any piece of work on ao3
- Please be sure to list the appropriate rating and possible trigger warnings.
- 'Fandoms' as EXO (band) and others as you see fit.
- Fill in the pairing in 'Relationship' and 'Category'.
- Type 'Notes' preferably 'at the beginning' beginning with your PROMPT #00.
- Do not tick 'only show your work to registered users' or 'disable anonymous commenting' during the fest.
- Everything else is free reign.
- Click 'Preview' or 'Post Without Preview' to post.
- Notify us via e-mail, twitter, ask, or here that you've posted.
- And that's it!
This submission method is great since it means you have full control over your work, whether you want to delete, orphan, or edit your work days, months, or years after the fest is through.
For NON-AO3 Users, writers who didn't provide an ao3 username, will be sent a "traditional" final submission e-mail closer to the rolling submission period.
We will ask for the title, rating, pairing, summary, trigger warnings, and any author's note you may wish to add. Rest assured you will still have access to your piece to either delete or edit it. If you would prefer to orphan it and don't mind having it up we will keep it within the collection. All you have to do is contact us!
*You can start submitting after you've checked in with us at least twice in accordance to check in dates, so we can touch base on how your story is going.*
We hope that this has been useful information for you and not the confusing mess Ree thinks it is.
Good luck! ♥ Keep going!

- You can claim more than one prompt overall during the fest, but you must submit the final draft of your previous claim first.

Please refer to our rules about anything else you may be concerned about! I will post the link to the rules at the end of this post, also again. This is only Round 2 for this little fest, and only my second time running something so wonderful and creative, with that in mind I ask you all to be very patient with me.
RULES
EDIT: Because little mod is a complete and utter airhead, she forgot to put the prompt format with this.
Pairing(s):
Rating:
Do not want:
+1:(Things that you would enjoy seeing but aren't necessary for the prompt)
Now with that said, happy prompting everyone!!! Thank you for participating!!!

![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Welcome
Prompts may be any pairing, but at least half of the pairing MUST be unusual(Ex: Vampire/Human, Hybrid/Human, Wolf/Human etc). There are SO many possibilities! Hybrids of any variety (cats, wolves, unicorns, gerbils – any animal you can dream of!), aliens, vampires, shape shifters, tentacle monsters, fairies, wood nymphs, trolls, angels, demons, elementals... Your prompts are only limited by your imagination. Send as many as you can dream up!! Ratings from G to NC-17 are welcome!
Prompts will be screened and anonymous, so send us your wildest ideas and we promise we won't tell!
Anyone can leave or claim a prompt. You do not have to write a fic if you send a prompt, and you do not have to submit a prompt to claim a fic!
Authors should have an LJ, AO3, or Dreamwidth account to link to once reveals are made so we can send your fans to read your other works! You also need a valid e-mail address so that we can contact you regarding fest matters.
