Beta Sign Up
Hello!!!
In this post we'll give you general information about Betas and how to sign up if you decide to become one for Exo Mostly Human Round 2. If you're a writer please be patient ^^ / We'll give you all the information you need for beta claiming short after we gather enough Beta sign ups, this in order to our writers to not be left without help. Without further add, here we go!
🔮 What is a beta?
In short, a beta is someone who helps a writer, in this case our participant work through their writing either by working as a plot soundboard, grammar and spelling, or any feedback on the plot, characters, settings, tone, etc. Anything the writer would like help with.
🔮 Who can beta?
Quite literally, anyone. Different writers need different betas, so if you can offer your time and commit to helping a writer through their writing process you are welcomed to sign up!
🔮 How it Works
We will do a Beta Archive since we think this will be flexible for participants throughout the fest. Beta Sign Ups and Beta Claiming will run from now until September 20th. When we receive Beta applications we will update the spreadsheet. When we have a couple of Betas we will open and tweet out the spreadsheet. EMH participants can then drop by to read all Beta applicants' information. From there they can decide if they want to work with a beta and contact us where we will then e-mail the beta.
PARTICIPANTS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO HAVE A BETA.
🔮 Expectations for Beta
Below is what I would write; it might engage you or it might put you off, but it should help potential participants to narrow down their search. Yours may be completely different.
🔮 Example
BETA SIGN UP FORM (OPENED)
BETA ARCHIVE (TBA)
WRITER FORM (TBA)
If the google form does not work, comment below and we will add you to the archive.
As always if a question/concern arises tweet us or DM us there or here.

🔮 Expectations for Beta
- You must be prepared to spend time working with a writer between now and September 20th. Please keep in mind this will require working out a schedule and what the writer needs between the both of you on your own time. Otherwise, you can contact us when questions or concerns arise.
- You must honor the anonymity code of fests and exchanges and not reveal who or what you’re specifically beta-ing for on social media during the duration of the fest.
- Have a valid e-mail so that we can contact you and so an interested participant can contact you.
- Once you've gotten your Beta information please e-mail us to let us know when your Beta agrees to work with you.
- Don't disappear on your Beta; if you need to withdraw contact you can contact them directly and/or e-mail us to let us contact them.
- If you think you'll need a beta last minute, please keep in mind that column of the spreadsheet.
- In case it's not clear, you can share everything with the beta as they are there to help you. Don't be afraid to ask them anything on your mind.

# of Prompts willing to Beta: 2
Time Zone: EST/EDT
Experience in beta/editing: I'm not much of a writer myself, but I enjoy reading. I have a strength in technical editing of brochures, how-tos, cover letters, and resumes so I've got an eye and ear for tone, audience, spelling, and grammar.
My editing style is straightforward. I will correct spelling on my own, but will bring up sentences that sound unnatural or strange and offer other ways to express it rather than edit on my own. I like to explain what I’m editing and why I'm editing it. So your document may have more colorful notes than cross outs; I actually don't believe in cross outs. I can work with ESL/EFL writers. I'm TEFL certified if that helps. You can tell me how strict or easy going you want me to be, but by default I'm easygoing as I don't want to feel discouraged.
I'd also be willing to work as a soundboard for anyone who wants to throw around ideas and develop characters, settings, or needs help researching. Writing can be a stressful time so I'm willing to do a lot of handholding. If you ask for a list of all dog breeds, I'll do it. You want virtual hugs? I'll send them. I do a lot of soundboarding with my writer friends, and I think I’ve developed solid questions to help you find what you're looking for.
While I will handhold my goal is to make sure you're producing your own ideas and your story has a "You," the writer, element. We can keep bouncing off ideas until something seems to stick with you.
Also, I would prefer sharing files with you on google docs rather than .doc .docx files. I'm more free on the weekends than on weekdays but we can work the minor details out later if you want to work with me.
Ratings: Any
OTPs: All EXO pairings & ot3+
NOTPs: None.
Strengths/Likes: slice of life, crack/comedy, action, aromantic/ace spectrum and some lgbtqi themes, romance, angst, hurt/comfort; okay with everything not mentioned in dislikes.
Weaknesses/Dislikes: A/B/O, porn without plot, hardcore kinks like water sports, sci-fi & fantasy (I like reading it, but I'm weak in it)
Can you beta last minute?: Yes
Message to our participants: Whether we work together or not, I hope you can develop and find support in fic writing! I can't wait to read them all at the end!
